As a thing to say this Pride Month, part of accepting I was aroace was asking myself if I really wanted to get some sort of romantic partner. The answer was...not really? I like my own company. I don't feel any big urge to have "One True Love" in my life. Social contact was serviced well through close friends. Sex and Romance didn't need involvement. Maybe I'll die a single spinster, but spinning yarn was an occupation that could earn a woman enough money to live on her own. Thus the equation of spinster to older single woman. She is strong, independant, anddon'tneednoman. Wanting a man is cool, but I don't even really want one of that. There are aspects of kink culture I enjoy, but I most enjoy the things that don't really involve intercourse. I also enjoy whump writing, but that's because it's another form of intimacy that doesn't deal with sex. Hell, I realized I don't like most Top 40 songs because most of them are about being in love or someone asking to get back with someone after cheating on them. The former I find boring because I can't relate (and I can listen to a song about being a tree and relate), and the latter has me hoping the singer purposefully cast themselves as the bad guy in their own song. Anyway, my big move when I embraced my sexuality is to stop looking for a romantic partner on apps. They didn't work well for me anyway. "Swipe Right if you like them!" it says. How do I know I like them? I can tell if they're conventionally attractive, sure, but a picture and a short curated bio don't tell me enough to even consider them. Deleting those apps and thinking "I don't need or want a romantic partner" made me feel free. Thank goodness my parents aren't pushing me to marry or have kids, and my brother's successfully continued the genetic family line so I don't have to. Happy Pride Month from a relaxed Asexual, a proud Aromantic, and, bonus points, and pondering egg cracking its shell.

Don't Care for an Old Man's Underwear Ep 11 (Finale) Stray Thoughts

Last time, Daichi's dad came back into the picture and dumped a heaping pile of homophobia right on top of our favorite boy. Daichi, despite all his courage and conviction, balked before his father. No one was able to say much to Daichi; not Madoka, not Makoto. Makoto wasn't sure how to interject himself in this situation, and hesitated because he wanted to move properly. At work, there was discussion about people being downsized and laid off, and how that ruined relationships once a man could no longer provide. Meanwhile, Kakeru is struggling with the ethics of makeup after he helped his friend pretend to be a kind of girl she isn't. Finally, when no one else seemed like they could talk to Daichi, Kakeru reminded us that he's Makoto's son and meddled directly. We left at Daichi's dad being horrible to Kakeru, and Makoto stormed off to confront the man once he found out.
I really like how vile this final villain is with his presentation as reasonable and principled. He uses a soft tone, but he's constantly turning things around to be cruel. He made his son suffer, and he was rude to Kakeru. I almost wonder if he provoked Kakeru just so he had the leverage to demand the Okita family stay away from Daichi. He's an excellent villain, because you have to use all the empathy and compassion the show brought out of you to resist this man's flawed logic.
Wow, Makoto gets it. I am gonna cry because I'm so proud of him for not losing his conviction.
Madoka, my guy, what are you doing? This is a big problem you should face together.
Oh, Kakeru, you were so harsh to everyone all season about how they talked to you. It's hard to talk to people isn't it?
OOF Mor is also dealing with the expectations of society at large. We're really building to a finale.
And now Mika might be losing her job!
My family is in crisis!
Truly so special that Makoto has finally reached an understanding with his family that he realized what was wrong with each of them.

It did feel like a barrier had formed between Daichi and Makoto. I'm sad and frustrated.

Okay, what bad news did Furuike get, because my man just reiterated that when you grow up your heart dies?
Oh, Furuike, you've come along as well. Responding to the info that Shimura realized what was going on with him that she should be promoted is excellent growth. I also love him reminding Makoto that he's not dead yet. Life is still worth living.
I love Makoto recognizing that he was asked to be the matchmaker. He needs to know that the rules of the society can be turned for the betterment of people even in the modern age.

Wow, this is the best show I've ever seen. The Okita family showed up exactly as themselves, with their passions plain, and stood before Daichi in front of this cruel man. Makoto demolished that man entirely, and said plainly that he is cruel to his son.
Daichi said it! If I change myself like that then I won't be myself!
Don't let the door hit you on the way out!!
So thankful that this show gave us that scene between Mihoko and Daichi. Sometimes we have to accept that people important to us won't accept us, but we must remember that we have those who will.
Way to release the tension with an old man's underwear and his kids dunking on him.

Of course Makoto is a crying, sloppy mess during the wedding. I love him.

Final Verdict: 11, Television Can Still Be Good. Truly, I don't know how else to describe this other than as one of the most important things I've ever watched in the last 20 years of engaging with stories about queer people. Seeing the Okita family reveal their passions and blast Daichi's dad like Care Bears as Makoto tells him he's a cruel asshole jumping to the front of the line to beat him up. This show earned every single beat it hit, and it was so lovely to watch a show where every character had goals and challenges. It wasn't just about making sure two guys have sex. This was a story about friendship and community, and it had strong ideas about how we make ourselves suffer for the betterment of others and yet no one is happy. This is one of the best things I've ever seen. Please go watch it.

I haven't seen this brought up anywhere else, but would love to hear if it has:
Upon the second time viewing the end of Burning Shores, I realized Sylens probably cares about Aloy but won't admit it. It makes me wonder if she reminds him of a friend/lost child, or if it's just because they have something in common that's hard to come by (technical and historical knowledge centering around the Old Ones and GAIA) and how much they can accomplish when they work together.
He says something along the lines of "My reasons are my own" when Aloy presses him as to why he stayed behind instead of boarding the Zenith ship.
Even though he doesn't go out of his way to help her it feels like he always expects her to catch up, and gives her the tools necessary to overcome obstacles. He still routinely underestimates her—like a parent (or simply adult) would a child—at least in part because of their differing worldviews and age difference.
Because of the nature of the post-apocalyptic world of Horizon and Aloy as a character, she is in danger constantly with or without Sylens' help, and I wonder if that's part of why he's so distant. Like a Joel and Ellie situation where he's trying to resist the parental urges.
Whenever they have spats, Aloy's venom comes across more genuine and raw than Sylens'.
And Aloy could potentially see a father in him as well, considering the similarities between Sylens and Rost: both emotionally distant, both had trouble understanding Aloy's behavior, and both guided her with things that were new to her.
I don't know whether or not this is good writing, considering the franchise's known white feminism and how npcs—many of whom are POC, including Sylens—especially in the first game practically worship Aloy for the smallest kindnesses, not to mention the Frozen Wilds DLC's white savior complex. What really holds the games back from being great in my opinion is the fact they made Aloy white and how that affects the way they wrote other characters around her.
But the two characters have a very interesting dynamic, and I just wanted to talk a little about it. I like that it's been ambiguous what they mean or don't mean to each other. There may be a parent-child dynamic or there may not, there may be a maybe-requited* friendship or there may not! Is he just lonely in general? Who knows!
*"Maybe" because although at first glance Aloy hates Sylens' guts by HFW—and I'm not saying she doesn't 😬���there's the major character arc for Aloy that she's only beginning to understand other people and her own emotions in relation to them.

Never Let Me Go D/s breakdowns Ep 4
As of right now, there is no D/s relationship, friendship or otherwise. Is there a D/s element? Yes! Palm is without a doubt submissive. The verdict is still out on Nueng. Is there a power imbalance? Abso-fucking-lutely. But is there a distinct power play line between work and play? That's the question. One that has only gotten murkier rather than clearer, but I'm a determined bitch.
Phum deserved what he got, but Palm really didn't. We're seeing an interesting dynamic here. Nueng wants to go to defend Palm, but Palm stops him. Now, I can hear you guys now. The way Palm is talking to Nueng isn't submissive. Actually... It is. So once again, submissive doesn't equal doormat, and it doesn't mean that they won't speak their mind. It's in the phrasing. It's in the body language. We see confidence but don't domination. This would be the same way my husband would talk to me when he is aware that he has more knowledge on the subject.
The way Palm let his hand glide down to grab Nueng's fingers before letting go! Then that little smile. Oh, my goodness.

Nueng goes back and forth on how he uses his dominance. Sometimes it really is Dom, but most of the time it's to cover how nervous or unsure he is. It's a like a mask that he slides into place. However, when Palm asked him if the teacher assigned them together, we see the real Nueng come out. That smile. This playful Nueng is really him.
"No. I chose you to be my partner. I chose to work with Pannakorn Jannaloy. Does Mr. Pannakorn have a problem with it? Do you want to change your partner?"
See the Dominance we see, at this moment, where he enters the room and talks about scolding him. That's real.

There is a lot of D/s in this particular conversation. Let me type it out for you to see.
"Let me put my clothes on." Palm is more asking than he is telling. "This is your room. Do whatever you want." See the permission and dominance in this statement? Then Palm sits on the floor and Nueng looks at him like he is stupid and pulls him up on the bed. "What are you doing? Why are you sitting on the floor? You can sit here. Are you a slave? Get up and sit here. Why are you so afraid of me? That’s it."
OH DAMN!!! See the way Nueng grabbed Palm's jersey. Palm liked that. Woot! Okay then.
And here we go with the foreshadowing again. "Why did you pick the number 13? Did you know that 13 is an unlucky number for Chinese people? 1 + 3 = 4. Number 4 in Mandarin sounds similar to the word ‘dead’." But there is hope because look how Palm responds. "I don’t pay attention to things like luck. No matter what number I wear, I will do my best to win the game. I will overcome any obstacles." Palm doesn't believe in luck, but he believes in fate.
Now we know Chopper is a liar.
Nueng is a very jealous boy. It causes him to go very Dom and Palm loves it. He brats back. Yeah, that's the dynamic he likes.
More fucking foreshadowing. "I found out about Qi Xi Jie. It falls on the 7th day of the 7th Chinese lunar month. It’s the day celebrating the tragic love between the weaver girl and the cowherd. This is their story. The weaver girl who lived in heaven fell in love with the cowherd. They were living together for years. When the wife of the Jade Emperor found out about their relationship, she interfered between them. She drew a river in the sky to separate them. The queen was later moved by their love. They were allowed to meet each other on a bridge formed by magpies. But they can only meet once a year." "It’s a story of impossible love." "I feel sorry for them. They loved each other but couldn’t be together." "But I think it’s romantic. The two of them overcame major obstacles for their love. Even though they could meet only once a year, they were patiently waiting for the day. That must be tormenting. If you were them, would you wait for that day?" Then we get hope, "If I was them, I would wait for it. When I love someone, I can endure everything for that person. Maybe it’s because of the long waiting and their different backgrounds, that makes their love become a legend. The queen might want to test their love."
So I asked one of my darlings about this story and this is what she told me, "Only once a year, but they will always meet on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month. That day is now the Chinese equivalent of Valentine's Day. It represents everlasting love."
I love this next moment so much.
And Palm looking directly at what he wants.
"Just make me proud." This is Dom and the way Palm responds is very subby. Then the way Palm proceeds to work his ass off is very subby. For instance. I told @thequeenofsastiel that I was expecting a fanfic by the end of I Will Knock You. Who wants to lay bets that she's already started an outline?
I don't like Ben. Just saying. Awe! Poor Palm. This next part is very D/s.
"What’s wrong with you? Why are you answering me curtly? You also don’t look at me." "It’s nothing. May I be excused? I need to go help Aunt Nid." I can see why it would be confused with Boss and employee, but you got to put ALL the parts together. "Wait. You need to talk to me first. What’s wrong with you?" "Nothing. I don’t have a right to be mad at you." "Just tell me what’s going on here. Aren’t we friends?" See, even though Nueng will become Dominant, he doesn't associate himself with Dominant and boss. He sees himself as Dominant with a friend. Does he blur this? Absolutely, but so does Palm. Which is why we are all fucking confused. Right now though, Nueng is not boss, he is friend. "If we are friends, we should be able to talk to each other about everything. Why don’t you answer me? If you have something you want to say, just say it. You are easy to read. You cannot hide your feelings from me." This is a very interesting comment. How much truth does it hold? Not much considering the next convo, but we continue to see a D/s element to the conversation. Down to Palm asking to be excused.
And Nueng acts like a shithead in his jealousy. Notice that Palm doesn't mind being submissive to Nueng, but he has an issue with being treated inferior.

the end of the fairy tale
Let's talk about Nada.
So, for those who haven't read the comics, I'm going to say it now, even if the comics were already released 30-odd years ago, okay? SPOILERS. MAJOR SPOILERS. VERY LIKELY THE PLOT OF SANDMAN SEASON 2.
There.
The second thing I am going to say is this: THIS DOES NOT EXCUSE/EXONERATE DREAM OF THE ENDLESS FROM ANY OF HIS SHITTY ACTIONS. BECAUSE THEY WERE REALLY, REALLY HORRIBLE. HEINOUS. CRUEL. HE WAS A FUCKING IDIOT.
Look, I love the fucking idiot, okay? But yeah, the day I read that particular part in the comics was the day I absolutely wished I could reach into that world and shake him into sense. Like, DREAM, YOU MORON, YOU COME BACK HERE AND FIX THIS RIGHT THIS INSTANT GODDAMNIT. YOU FUCKING KNOW BETTER THAN THIS.
Thankfully, Death took care of that for me, in true Pinay Ate fashion.
Buckle up kids, here we go.
In the comics, Queen Nada was the first love interest that we see for Dream of the Endless. At least, the first that we knew of, since Endless Nights wasn't going to be written and published until years later.
It plays out like a classic myth, that tribal people tell each other, as part of a rite of passage for their youth. Queen Nada is the beautiful queen of a great and ancient city somewhere in Africa. She falls in love with a handsome and mysterious man. Despite multiple warnings and obstacles in her way, she goes on a quest to find Mr. Mystery and she eventually does find him.
It's worth noting that Dream here is again shown to be different from the usual pale, white, ghostly dude that we know. We're reminded that the Dream we see as a "default" is based on our perceptions. He appears as an eldritch godlike being, all flame and majesty to the Martian Manhunter.
To Nada, he is a beautiful young man of her own race but alas, when she finds him, she realizes that he's not a mortal. She recognizes him for what he is and is terrified, because to love an Endless is to court disaster. It's forbidden.
I won't recount the whole tale, but suffice it to say, that Dream eagerly pursues her once he's figured out that she's madly in love with him. She tries to run away but eventually she gives into Dream and they have this one incredible night of passion. But because she apparently broke this taboo, her kingdom is completely destroyed.
Dream tries to offer her the Queenship of the Dreaming, but obviously, that's not going to fly with Nada, who's absolutely broken that all of her innocent people had to pay the price for her foolish passions and love. She chooses to kill herself and while Dream still tries to persuade her to spend her afterlife with him, she refuses.
And that's why he sends her to hell. It takes about 10,000 years, but after Desire needles him (as usual) and Death points out (in a gentler fashion) that he'd behaved abominably, Dream decides to do the right thing and get her out of hell. It helps that he's just experienced imprisonment as well (we'd later learn that this has happened twice) and after some shenanigans, he does set her free.
Dream awkwardly attempts to apologize and he ends up getting rightfully smacked in the face, because, Dream, you moron, that's not how you say sorry. OMG.
DASURV.
This is one of the reasons why Tom Sturridge's Morpheus took me a little off guard. His apology to Lucienne and his closure with Calliope are leagues away from this, where he shows a lot more empathy, sensitivity and maturity. I'm looking forward to seeing how the show is going to handle that moment, since they've been doing such a great job of adapting and making changes to the source material while still staying true to the spirit of the entire saga.
But I digress. Dream does really make it right with Nada and she gets to reincarnate and live her new life, finally free of all the bullshit.
For a long time, I had wondered how Dream of the Endless could've been so cruel and petulant and capricious. I did understand that The Sandman wasn't a classic "hero" tale where the lead character would make the "right" choice every time. Dream does change and grow and develop for the better over the course of the series, which is why it's so heartbreaking to lose him in the end, just when it seems he's finally getting his shit together.
And then I read Endless Nights and I finally understood.
Poor Nada was basically Dream's rebound love from the disaster that was Killala of the Glow.
Killala was a trainwreck in the making. From the comics, it seemed like Dream had been the one who did the courting, dazzling and wooing her. She's into it, but she doesn't seem to understand Dream's real nature and it's fairly clear that she's attracted to Dream and very much charmed, but it's Dream who's fallen hard and fast for her.
It's also worth noting that the restriction against loving mortals was not yet in place. It's Killala who causes that restriction to happen. Given that she falls in love with the star of her own solar system, it's significant that the one who doles out punishment for Nada falling in love with Dream and consummating that love is our sun.
I honestly think that Killala and Dream would've still broken up, even without Desire's meddling, but it might have happened gradually, over time and Dream might have learned a far more different, gentler lesson in loving mortals. Instead, he gets faced with Killala openly betraying him and running off with Sto-Oa. Desire laughs in Dream's face about it and admits that they thought it was a fun joke.
And Dream does absolutely nothing, except to storm away.
Killala isn't punished, isn't condemned to hell, doesn't suffer some unspeakable fate. We're told that she was happy with her love, even though she does die, eventually, since she's mortal.
So it's no wonder that Dream had overreacted so badly with Nada. It was Nada who had initially pursued him. It was Nada who had gone through all these trials and tribulations to prove her love for him. She was the one who essentially did the courting and the wooing. To Dream, who was still feeling bruised and battered after getting rejected by Killala, it had to be a heady feeling, to be loved and wanted like that.
Was it any wonder that he absolutely would not let Nada go after this? That he would try to hold on to her, try to keep her by his side, damn the consequences?
It's also significant that the Dream Nada sees, essentially looks like a teenager of her own age - a clear sign that Dream himself isn't emotionally mature enough or had developed that conscientious streak that made him so endearing much later in his life. He was young (in Endless terms), he was hurting over his last love and his sibling's cruelty, and he just wanted, very much, to be loved and have his fairy tale happily ever after.
Again, this doesn't excuse his cruelty. But at least we can better understand where he's coming from and appreciate how much character growth he'd gone through, because he does, in the end, set things right with Nada the best way he possibly could. And while it's not a fairy tale ending, it's a satisfying one.

Hi! Hope you're doing well!
So whenever I fall in love with a fic, like I have with Revolution of Configured Stars, I tend to read the comments and something you said in one of them caught my interest. About how you enjoy stories that focus more on the "after" in a relationship than the "before". I haven't really seen that much, so I'm wondering if you could elaborate on that? I'm really excited to see how it plays out in RoCS.

Oh, I love this topic! Thank you for giving me an opening to talk about it!
A lot of romance fiction focuses on the "before." It's the journey to the couple deciding to be together, the will-they-or-won't-they, the obstacles that slow them down and have to be overcome, etc. The majority of the story is spent getting to the couple being a couple, and that's all a lot of fun (I love reading a good slow burn as much as anyone), but life goes on. Now these people are in a relationship. Fantastic. What happens next?
For me, as a writer, the "what happens next" is more interesting to interrogate. There's a whole world that opens up once the relationship has been decided upon. Learning to live together, how to be a unit while remaining individuals, continuing to choose each other, all the little details that make up a life spent with another person. It's a cliche, but that whole "love is an action verb" sentiment applies.
You can still have all of those obstacles and potential breaking points, but with different nuance because it's no longer about if these people are going to get together, but if they're willing and able to stay. How much can they take? Is what they've built enough? Is it even worth it in the end? And how do they change as their knowledge of each other becomes increasingly intimate and comprehensive?
I also love the development of casual, non-sexual intimacy that accompanies being in a committed relationship. In a slow burn, that intimacy starts to develop, but there's also the heightened tension of not being together yet. In the "after" you can still have all sorts of delicious tension, but the non-sexual intimacy begins to unfold in a way that can't happen without the certainty that they are, in fact, a couple. Not just the potential to become one.
So that's why I'm not, generally speaking, a slow burn writer, and why RoCS is going to see Harrymort embarking on a relationship fairly early on. And then we'll be spending the rest of our time together watching them navigate the consequences of that decision and figuring out what it means in the long term.
With very high stakes for everyone else, because it's just that kind of story.

Crusty Engineer Advice Pt I?
The first thing about being an engineer is this: it's all about the artist. Everybody new to the game wants to know "what's the magic plugin?" "what are the settings that make a vocal pop?" and a whole bunch of other questions like that. And -to a certain extent- these things are important. But they're not things that get you repeat clients right away. People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel. Maya Angelou said that, and it's true. In the end, 90% of your clients won't hear that 3dB that you added to the final mix. They'll remember how they felt in the vocal booth. They won't care that the computer hard drive was almost full, leading to fragmentation, or that some newbie saved all his sessions on the desktop, slowing the whole system down. They won't care that a fuse in the power supply blows, or that there aren't multiple hardware headphone likes run to the vocal booth, or whatever. What they WILL remember is how you handled the session. EVERYTHING that happens is on you. Even if it's a hardware failure, even if there's "no way someone could reasonably expect this" or whatever excuse you're using.
If you're a pro, there ARE NO excuses. Period.
The job of an engineer is this: to remove obstacles between the artist's vision and the final music. That's why you're there at all. Your job is to anticipate issues before they happen.
Here is a bit of advice I gave another fellow: Many, MANY young folks ask about assisting, interning, etc. All the time. Maybe they're a musician on the track, maybe they're a friend of the artist. But when they hear good things being done with the music, they start asking, "hey, what compressor are you using? Is that the SSL EQ? Hey, man, can I sit in on your sessions? Like, assist you?"
The vast majority of these people are looking to GET something. They want free lessons on how to be an engineer. They want tips, names of plugins, lists of "presets" (don't get me started!) and to tell their friends that they are "working" in Xyz Studio. These people get told to leave their info with the front desk.
Every once in a while, you come across somebody different. Very seldom, maybe only once or twice a year, you meet somebody who wants to GIVE something. That's a different thing. Now hang on— I'm not talking about taking advantage of somebody. What I mean is, for example: The artist's friend Billy (who played keys on a couple of songs, or whatever) is at the sessions. Many artists like their people there for vibe. Whatever. But let's imagine that Billy comes up to me and says, "Hey, I notice that every time you come in, you switcf each phraseto the chair without the little armrests, and you put the pop filter on a separate stand. Are you interested in having me take care of that next time?"
Now, that is the sort of job that interns get to do: move mic stands, brew coffee, run headphone lines, and so on. And ANY intern will do that, when you tell 'em "hey, I need some more coffee. And can we get TWO sets of cans in the booth for those harmony singers, please?" But the guy or gal who already HAS the other headphones ready just in case, or who starts the coffee when your mug is getting cold, that shows that they care about contributing to a creative and technical environment. It's not all about THEM, it's about the session. About the music. These people's numbers go into my phone.
For example, I was working in Studio A where everything was hardwired and mounted in the walls. Big Name Vocal Talent wanted super-loud headphones. But there's just the jack in the wall. So I wanted to put a headphone amp right next to him so he can crank it up when he wants to. (a good idea in many cases anyway, but it wasn't my job there to tell the studio owner to rewire his room while the talent was waiting. It's my job to fix the damn problem as quickly as possible and not make anybody think about technical issues.)
I had two interns in the room. I said to both of them, "I need to run an extra feed into the big room. Please find me a couple of XLR-phono adapters so I can just use the direct lines." (Again, this place's choice of wiring connectors is not the issue here.)
First dude comes back in a few minutes, "Nope, we don't have any of those in the supply room." Really? Ack! I grab a couple of cables from my go bag and run a feed from the drum room to the vocal room. It ain't pretty, but it'll get the job done. Time for mic check.
Maybe twelve minutes after that, the second intern comes in, all sweaty. "Hey, man, we didn't have any of those, but check it out: can you just plug in to the MIC lines (backward!) and use these gender changers I found, hooked up to direct boxes to switch it back around in the vocal room? Here are phono cables already hooked up." My man.
The first guy got to go back to his Xwitter at the front desk without being inconvenienced, the second guy had an unexpectedly long night because I requested that he assist me for the remainder of the sessions. He's now an engineer in his own right.
TL;DR: Have something to offer, even if it's just the fact that you know you'll need to bring napkins when you walk the pizza back to the lounge room. Or be WILLING to watch for what the SESSION needs (not just what YOU need as info to work on your own tunes.) Too many interns/assistants do only what they're told, only when they're told it. Don't go off doing things without asking the engineer or confirming that it's the right time. But damn, show that you're about something besides yourself.
I can't remember the last time I looked at somebody's resumé first thing. Lack of knowledge and experience can be worked around. But lack of work ethic is a serious flaw. Some of the worst people I've worked with have had degrees from Big Name University and have been unwilling to even consider the possibility that there's another way than theirs. A couple of the best have been mostly self-taught.

Can we talk about Kinn, Vegas, and this idea that Vegas would be a much better fit for the mafia heir/head of family spot? (Disclaimer: I have NOT read the novel nor do I have any desire to. I'm writing this based completely on the show.)
For all intents and purposes, Vegas is the epitome of the perfect mob boss/kingpin. That's the perspective that some people have and I don't completely disagree with that assessment. Yes, he fits the mold far better than Kinn. Kinn has too much heart (emotionally) to fully be the ruthless kingpin that his father and others expect him to be. That's not to say that I'm claiming that Kinn is some sort of innocent angel. No, not at all. There are no pure and innocent characters on this show, except for maybe Chay. Let me reiterate that because that sentiment tends to get lost in translation when there's any sort of comparison between Kinn & Vegas. But in comparison to Vegas, Kinn does have a little more sympathy for other people. He does have more regard for others than his cousin. These are objective facts.
From what we've seen, Kinn often thinks about the multiple outcomes of his (and his family's) actions. He thinks about how certain outcomes can affect him/his family in the long run. It's why he mentioned that the major and minor family are essentially in competition with each other in episode 7, and how the outcome of the mission would affect him personally (Porsche could die) and professionally (the minor family would lose & Porsche dies or they would succeed/win & he lives).
Kinn is far more patient but that's because his eventual rise to power isn't as much of an uphill battle as Vegas's would be. His obstacles aren't nonexistent; they're simply not the same as Vegas's. Vegas is still a part of the minor family. Even if he could somehow usurp Kinn, his place in the minor family wouldn't impress their allies and it wouldn't instill any sort of fear in their enemies. As the minor family hasn't done anything major to cement their role in the underworld as formidable opponents yet.
So anyway, the assumption is that Vegas has the personality for the job, right? He is the quintessential mafia king, but that's not enough to be the one to successfully rule & lead the family. As mentioned in this post, the one advantage Vegas has over Kinn is that his father doesn't micromanage him as much. This is a blessing and a curse. Vegas's father is more laissez-faire when it comes to Vegas making decisions for the family. That's the blessing. The curse of this aspect is the fact that Vegas has full reign to do whatever he pleases and what he thinks is best, yet he never fully succeeds in those plans. He doesn't have a Papa Korn in his ear reminding him to do this and that to maintain his role as the man in charge. Yet, despite his freedom, Vegas hasn't come up with a single plan that hasn't come back to bite him in the ass yet.
Vegas lacks follow-through, strategy, and long-term planning.
To put it plainly, he doesn't know how to play chess.
That's the best way I can describe it. To piggyback off of that point, Vegas desires instant gratification. It also plays a part in his sadomasochistic predilections, as well. He lacks patience and self-control. He's far too indulgent to allow his plans to work because his lack of patience & self-control won't allow him to sit back and let the pieces fall in place. It's why he failed at using Porsche to get to Kinn. He showed his hand too early and too quickly. Despite Kinn warning Porsche multiple times to stay away from Vegas, Porsche didn't really listen to him. Not that he would have been able to fully get that close to Porsche in a romantic way to begin with, due to obvious reasons. But if he'd taken a different approach, he could have insinuated himself into Porsche's life under the guise of being a trusted friend until he was able to get close enough to deliver the final blow.
He had no long-term planning and he didn't care for the delayed gratification. His desire to attain a personal victory over Kinn pretty much outweighed any logic or rationale. Vegas drugged Porsche and wanted to 'leave his mark on him' in episode 4 and it lead to Kinn & Porsche having sex for the first time. There's that need for instant gratification and his blatant arrogance I mentioned. It never even dawned on him that what he did would have lead to them finally acting on their feelings for each other but that's exactly what it did. He did it to drive them apart but it was the catalyst that brought them closer. Vegas shot himself in the foot and ruined his own plan before he could enjoy the fruits of his labor. It wasn't until Vegas made his move on Porsche in episode 7 that Porsche finally saw through the facade and everything came crumbling down.
I'm sure Porsche had his suspicions long before the events in episode 7 took place. But Vegas, himself, actually confirmed said suspicions. Vegas was actually doing quite well when it came to slowly gaining Porsche's trust. At least he appeared to be. So much so that Kinn saw him as a real threat to his relationship with Porsche. Vegas was doing well until he started laying on the romantic charm too thick. So when he spilled the beans to Porsche about something he shouldn't know (e.g. Porsche's dream of having his own bar), that was the beginning of the end. Once he made that mistake, it was all downhill from there & he never regained his footing and he continued screwing up (e.g. trying to kiss Porsche in the bathroom).
He committed to the fuck up and he paid for it. He's not quick on his feet so he couldn't fix it and he's too arrogant to see it as a mistake. Hence him not picking up on Porsche's change in demeanor once he mentioned the bar. But it's like I said - Vegas lacks strategic thinking. A good chess player knows they have to plan long-term; you don't make moves that are going to suit you right now. You make moves that are going to suit you in the long run that will lead to you ultimately winning the game. You play the long con. Vegas showed his hand before the game could even finish and he failed.
So while I understand why some people would think Vegas would be the better fit, he actually wouldn't be. He probably could be if his character flaws didn't get in the way. If he was a different person, sure. But again, the idea that Vegas has lost just enough of his soul to do the dirty work without hesitation is NOT enough to make him an effective and ruthless mafia king. The idea that he lacks Kinn's perceived 'softness' and that being enough to spell success is laughable because there's far too much nuance that should be taken into consideration. Despite whatever happens later in the season, I don't doubt this will come up again. Even if he does end up getting a minor win somehow, his character flaws will cause further issues.
All of this plus whatever envy/inferiority complex he has when it comes to Kinn is a recipe for disaster. Obviously, everyone sees Porsche as Kinn's weakness and I don't necessarily agree with that assessment but Porsche can be removed at any time. However, Vegas's true weakness isn't anyone else (at the moment). (And yes, I'm aware that his brother is the only one he truly cares about in the novel but we haven't seen enough of them in the show for me to form any conclusions about their relationship). Vegas's weakness is himself, and that's worse because you can't remove yourself from the equation if you're the problem. You can't fix the problem if you are the problem.

Thank you for answering my questions (Jim & Revenge), though each answer leaves me with another. Trying to connect the dots now from Mainverse Lucius to May be Bad Lucius. The biggest dots are 1) does May be Bad Lucius struggle with anxiety at all (or previous to meeting Jim/Izzy, Eddy.) And 2) ...how and/or what leads to his character development/arc for him to [spoiler]. Not sure what else was going on those years we may not yet know.
Excellent questions! I think Lucius does still have anxiety and self-soothes with intensive planning and cutting off vital emotional parts of himself. He's got a good head in a crisis (true even in mainverse), so it doesn't trip him up on jobs. Jim lets him talk to himself as much he wants, seems to find it soothing themselves that someone is making noise while they work and that helps too.
On to question 2!
Because he gets involved so young with the business, he has lots of formative years where he discovers how easy it is to shortcut around annoying things like people disagreeing with you. Mainverse Lucius is constantly annoyed by the way people won't just accept that he's generally right, but he's a morally strong person who builds a bridge and gets over it. May Be Bad Lucius just learns to crush the opposition. Jim and Lucius are next gen Eddy and Izzy with Jim assuming Izzy's mantle and Lucius' taking on Eddy's. The major difference is that they see each other as equals right from the beginning, making them a much stronger team. As partners, they teach other things. Lucius in this verse learns violence and doesn't shy away from it. He gets over his fear of blood and he doesn't make Jim go off and kill alone. He bears witness, so Jim is never alone with it. (Jim learns how to mask a charismatic, good listener from Lucius along with some organizational things, they can both sub in for each other if need be though they still prefer to play to their strengths).
Eventually, they both just become comfortable with death and they have agreed on goals. One, they want to be obscenely wealthy both because money is fun and because it's a good shield. Two, they want to answer to no one, but themselves. Three, they want to stay free at all costs.
They do not discuss said goals with Izzy. They both like him, Lucius feels something that he classifies as love for him, but he's not going to let them become a crime syndicate, so he gets lovingly put on the shelf as they barrel through the only real obstacle in their path.
Lucius does not have the same level of care for Eddy that Jim does. He likes her just fine, doesn't mind being friendly or something close to a friend to her. But if she's going to get in the way of what needs to be done, than that's on her.
Jim and Lucius are ultimately loyal really only to each other and they are tied by a river of mutually shed blood.
Not sure if that clears things up or not!

hey! I only recently started reading acotar (i'm on the third book) and I love love love Lucien, and I'm super excited at the prospect of him and Elain... actually they are the main reason I'm reading at this point but all I've seen on twt is about the other ship for Elain 😔 Is there any hope for Elain x Lucien in the later books?? I'm asking bc I don't want to get major spoilers but also I'm tired of getting my heart broken by non endgame ships lol

I wouldn't worry about what people are saying on twitter. Just because one part of the fandom is more vocal doesn't mean their ship is more popular or that it has more chance of happening in canon. Right now neither ship is canon. But absolutely there is hope for Elucien!!
First Elucien are mates. Sarah loves mates/soulmates. We've seen that with Feysand and Nessian, and I don't know if you've read Throne of Glass but the main ship in that series are also mates and the main ship in Sarah's other series, Crescent City also show signs of being soulmates. Sarah loves writing about that deep soulmate type of love! They might have to overcome obstacles but ultimately they choose each other.
Also Sarah has talked about how in her early planning she briefly considered making Nesta and lucien mates but quickly realised they wouldn't work together/would tear each other apart. If Sarah really wanted to write about a rejected mating bond she could have left Nesta and Lucien mates and had them reject the bond. But she didn't because she loves soulmates.
Sarah has also said this about Elucien "there was actually a great deal of tension, growth and healing to be found for both of them together" She's never said anything ever about the other ship as far as I know? Certainly nothing romantic.
There is so much potential for healing between Elain and Lucien. One of the things I love about Elucien is they have so much in common. They're both gentle souls. Some people might not realise that about Lucien, but he really is. Lucien is someone who is deeply traumatised from violence, you see it in the first book in the scene when the injured Faery is brought into the Spring Court manor and he's deeply distressed by it. It clearly triggers his ptsd from his own trauma, but it also shows us that Lucien is someone who can't stomach violence, at least not in the way some of the other characters do. And Elain, well at this stage, since we haven't really seen her development or gotten her pov yet, being a kind gentle heart is really her defining character trait. They're two characters who would cherish a peaceful life away from war and violence. Two characters with the potential to be so soft together, to provide each other with a safe space to be vulnerable, and show their weaknesses and talk about their trauma. And be comforted by the other and have the other understand. They have such complimentary personalities. Something the other ship doesn't have. Azriel is a torturer (I love Az btw so this isn't a critiscm just observations about his character) he is filled with a cold hard rage, something Elain hasn't seen from him/doesn't truely know about him. And currently he's most definitely not one to open up and share about his own trauma, which certaintly doesn't work for two characters making a healing journey together. Something Sarah, as shown above see's as important. Elain and Azriel are simply too different imo. And I know people can argue opposite's attract. But opposite's attract only applies to a certain point, with certain things. If two people are just fundementally different a relationship won't work between them long term.
Meanwhile Elain and Lucien have just enough differences that they're not too similar but have enough in common to mesh really well together.
And even their differences are complimentary. Lucien has a bit of bite and sass about him, and that's something I think Elain needs to help bring her out of her shell. Elain is someone who has been coddled and infantalised and sheltered, people don't challenge her or speak freely to her, they censor themselves around her. Very minor spoilers seeing as you're only up to the third book, but in the 5th book, Acosf there's a moment where Nesta snaps/swears at Elain, and Nesta immediately regrets it because you don't talk to sweet precious Elain like that. But Elain just laughs. Elain wants people to speak freely to her, to stop sheltering her and show her some sass and bite. And who's the perfect person to do that, our boy Lucien!! Again some minor spoilers but I love this comparison

Look at this parallel between them *chefs kiss*
Like Sarah said these are two characters that will push growth in each other and challenge each other. In a way that Azriel and Elain don't. Azriel, and this is very apparent in Acosf, coddles Elain, he speaks for her, makes choices for her, wants to stops her from doing things, without ever thinking about or asking Elain what she wants. He does it to protect her but is disregarding her choice. Lucien on the other hand, and again some spoilers if you haven't reached the end of Acowar yet this is after the final battle
He's clearly worried about her but he doesn't let HIS worry/fear get in the way of HER agency.
"And I heard you made the killing blow" He sounds almost proud of her, like he would encourage her despite his own worry, and wants to see her strong and flourish.
What I also love in this scene is that again it shows how their both gentle hearts. "Well I never want to fight in another battle as long as I live" Lucien will fight and do what he needs to (and so will Elain if she has to). But Lucien isn't a warrior he would much rather never have to see war or battle ever again.
And then we have multiple references to Elain needing sunlight, needing to get outside, needing light to thrive. Again minor spoilers but there is also a scene in Acosf where Elain is wearing black and it's mentioned how she looks plain, overwhelmed, subdued by the colour, like it doesn't suit her at all. There are a lot of subtle references suggesting Elain doesn't quite truely belong in the Night Court, that it's not where she can thrive. And who is associated with two courts, Spring and Day, where Elain could thrive? Who is associated with fire and warmth and light? Who is the heir of the day court? You got it our boy Lucien. Elain needs light and Lucien is light!! Literally the name Lucien means light! Coincidence? I think not.
Another similarity between them is Lucien is a diplomat, someone who uses words and charm and communication to keep the peace between courts. And Elain is said by Feyre to be be able to convince people to do anything, to charm them, to excel in social settings. And she was the one who kept the peace between her family, was the bridge between her father, Nesta and Feyre. And Imagine if in the future Lucien takes on a role in the day court or (and I'm sorry Helion) for whatever reason becomes the High Lord of Day Court, Elain could be an amazing Lady of Day, would flourish and charm at court balls or social occassions. Not to mention they both have great hair and are always put together/dressed immaculately. Like they would be A PAIR!
Then there's the gifts Lucien gives Elain (again minor spoilers for Acofas and Acosf) which are so thoughtful. In Acofas he gives her magical gardening gloves knowing gardening is something she loves and that she doesn't have any. And in Acosf he gives her pearl earrings, and pearls are somehing that are mentioned in relation to Elain a couple of other times. But it's like Lucien has noticed they're something she likes? These are just minor things but it's interesting that Sarah included them in her writing. It's almost as if she's subtly trying to hint that Lucien notices things about Elain, and see's her in a way that perhaps other's don't?
Also there's that Elain is very traditional and adheres to a quite a traditional type of femininity and Lucien is a complete and utter gentleman, who absolutely respects Elain and her needs. The potential for them to have an old fashioned courting romance asdgjkgfsa my heart the softness!! I also think they're going to end up being the epitome of your lover is your best friend.
And lastly, in Acosf there is a bonus chapter from Az's pov which ends with Azriel's focus on another character, and I would say personally that this chapter very clearly sinks that other ship.
Anyway in conclusion Elucien are going to be the most beautiful, softest, sweetest, supportive, with some sass as well, ship. So don't worry my friend. And even in the very small chance they don't become canon we can still enjoy all of these things about them in fanon. They will be canon though lol

We all ship each character with happiness. No matter how much you love to hate them, a majority of us simply adores the characters and want the best for them. Then comes relationships and it's okay to ship our favorites.⛴
I'm a diehard Rina shipper and I know in my heart that they are series endgame. The set up, the natural chemistry, their mutual understanding, the surprises and angst literally put me on chokehold. So I'm 100% a Rina shipper till the end. I'm here for the slowburn and their development rather than one shots. They are worth the pain. 😭❤
Let me start with Ricky Bowen now.
Ricky shouldn't to be with Gina because he's hurting her mentality. He's not insensitive on purpose. Like when he tried to stop Big Red from telling her his message to Nina because he KNOWS it'll hurt her.
If you think, that Ricky didn't understand clearly when Gina confessed, think again. He shushed her. Kept their thing a secret from everyone. He knows he feels some type of way and she feels something too. But this boy is so used to safeguarding his childhood norms and has very little adaptability. Hence, he pretended to ignore everything between them because his home stability was falling apart and he clinged on to Nina, his constant childhood love.
He's a traumatised 16-17 year old boy that needs to heal and grow. This episode was heartbreaking because he had to accept that he had to let Nina go because their once upon a time fairytale had become toxic.
People change. I'm not the same person I was when I was 16 lmao. Being together as childhood lovers means growing together and accepting each other's growth. Which Ricky couldn't. He clutched to the idea of Nini. Even his love confession. It was sooo sweet but all he did was focus on their history.
This boy needs time to heal and maybe seek professional therapy. It would be so DAMN HISTORIC if Disney decides to take psychological issues seriously and show how he's dealing with his anxiety, pills and psychotherapy. He needs to breathe before he can be with any girl for that matter. He's hurting and isn't trying to hurt anyone on purpose. Including Gina.
Him asking her for advice on Nini was a dumb, insensitive move. But he's trying to find a way to build some supportive friendship that they shared in early season one.
As for now, this boy needs to get his own grip on life and heal.
As for our Queen Gina
In Gina's confession, she focuses on their future. She basically said, "I wouldn't quit on a possible future of us being together despite obstacles. Because I never quit. But moving away isn't in my control." Ricky deep down knows this, encouraged her to say it, teary eyed, despite right after getting back together with Nini. Gina is his future. She went to his new house. And I also have this feeling that when she was given a chance to stay, she stayed partly because of Ricky. She left a chance to be with her mom because she prioritised their relationship. Because she never quits. 💪🏼
But she came back and found out Ricky has gotten back together with Nini.😭 What she doesn't know is Ricky got together with Nina before her confession, and after Gina kept dodging his messages. She's hurt and questions why she returned because she isn't particularly close to anyone. Hence, she was so silent at the after party. She thinks it'll be fine, "she'll live", and finds other reasons to find permanence. Her arc this season has been settling down in East High, despite the pain of losing and being 'betrayed' by Ricky, she finds other reasons to stay. 🏡
This kind of contrasts her with Nina. Nina left her dream school and came to Salt Lake because she missed her established home, and not just because of Ricky. Nina returned and was loved and embraced by Ricky Bowen.💕 Gina came back to a semi new place called Salt Lake because of her promise of a future to Ricky. But she got stabbed and she bled. 💔🗡
Think about her situation. She feels confused, alone, heartbroken, out of place and seperated from her mom. She's broken and hurting too. And she doesn't need more from Ricky's accidental or intentional 'sick burns'. That's the one line where he was such a jerk and I can't defend him here. 😠
Here comes the Caswells.
Her second family. A place of healthy stability. A home that accepted her. Ashlyn, her roomie and her confidante. EJ, the misunderstood boy who saw her value and bought her plane ticket.
Let's get to EJ.
At first, I wasn't too keen on seeing Portwell's development. But then that video chat where they talk about the possibility of her staying and him convincing her. Had me sold for a solid brother-sister relationship. Few episodes later, when Gina's pain seemed to be oblivious to everyone, he was the only one who asked her how she was, and saw her glow. The comfort she must've felt.
Not that she needs a man's validation, but she must be feeling like a second choice and feeling a little insecure because of Ricky. But EJ lifts her up and I genuinely saw her smile. This boy has her back whenever. The man she can lean on and truly sees how special she is. She no longer feels alone now that she has his entire fam and other friends. She genuinely feels a place of belonging and happiness when she's the apple of his eye. Notice how happy she is? How happy this boy is? She's going through her own issues and she has found ground with EJ.
I was very doubtful when they started hinting at a romantic direction. Because EJ would be used as plot device again for a girl to get to Ricky.😤 This man doesn't deserve to be second best to anyone, just like Gina.😑 That's why I'm still hesitant on shipping them at least temporarily. EJ needs to be something even more special to Gina. They need to show each other how special and treasured they are to each other despite feeling like rejects. They are each other's source of comfort.
I'm sure they can keep EJ at East High for the next season. Whether it's the drama club, or the AV club or going to a local college. So he will be there for Gina. I don't know how they can work out a relationship with much distance as Rini's fell out when she moved away. So, if EJ leaves again, it'll again shake up Gina. Her being worried whether he'll date college girls, second thoughts, etc. I don't want them to go through that. And if they do move on to romantic Portwell, make sure it's not plot device for Rina. So you can either have Portwell endgame or Rina Endgame.
Basically I want Gina to be treated so right that she understands she doesn't need Ricky. And when he does ask her out, and he makes her feel like a second choice or a rebound, she says NO. Because EJ has helped regain her self assurance. Eventually I want Gina to confide in EJ about her and Ricky. EJ is jealous but also angry about how Ricky has been hurting her. And becomes damn protective of his 'babe'. Ricky gets jealous of their relationship, restarting Ricky and EJ's old rivalry. But this time, it's not because Gina is his girlfriend, but because she's EJ's best friend who he has a crush on and wants what's best for her.
If it's meant to be Rina endgame
EJ- RICKY, YOU IDIOT! You have no clue how to treat her right. You don't put her first. You mislead her. Get the hell away from her! She's too powerful and beautiful, she doesn't deserve your scraps. I know how she feels for you. I wish I were you. I would treat her like a queen. I don't mind even waiting years till she's ready. She deserves that. You're so lucky you have even a small chance that I may never have. So get your act together, prove you're worth it to win her over. All I want is for her to be happy. Even if it's with someone else. And maybe then I'll stop threatening you to stay away from her.😠
Ricky- .....I don't know what I'm more scared of. Change, or losing the girl I fell for or YOU. Okay, losing her but you're a close second.😬
If it's Portwell endgame.
Ricky- I messed up. Make sure you don't mess up with her. You'll regret it forever.
EJ- I'd rather get hit by thousand basketballs than ever hurt her. I'll be her plus one and her best friend until she's ready to be with me. I know she's ready now too. But I want her to know I'm willing to wait till she graduates before we make it official. I'm in it for the long game.
As for their age gap. I'm 100% sure Portwell won't kiss this season. If they do, it'll be next when Sofia turns 18. They are professional actors who are cast because they are the perfect fit for the role and are expected to carry out the storyline. But I suppose fearing some outbursts, they might delay Sofia kissing anyone till next season. It's so weird because Olivia was maybe 17 when Matt was 21-22 when they kissed in season one. But no one had a problem with that. But for this, they do. Remember, they are professional actors. They are acting! Sometimes, actors are over 10 years apart (but above 18) and act as romantic partners.
As for their characters, they are only two years apart. That's hardly any difference once you're over the age of 18. Age of consent is 16. But adults above 18 are only allowed to have sex with adults above 18. So, age isn't a problem here because EJ is a gentleman and is genuinely interested in her and isn't trying to get in her pants. So age isn't the issue when it comes to dating. It's the maturity. Gina is very mature and gives very sound advice. But I can see EJ being patient enough till she turns 18 just to kiss her because he loves her. 😚
As for the Ashlyn remark, "You look like a kid to me rn". He was JOKING.😂 Don't take things out of context. I tell my cousin sister that all the time. But she's three years younger than me and a grown adult. I don't see her as a kid but it's just a cousin teasing her younger cousin that's she's a little immature. I'm Matt's age and I'm very mature for my age and since I was a teenager, I always matched up with boys a little older than me. Now that I'm in my early 20s, I've dated boys even close to 30. So age is just a number.
EJ dating Gina and giving her quick kisses is fine. But to have a strong sexual element in their relationship (including making out), he'll have to wait till she's 18+. And I'm sure for that he'll wait till she's ready even past her early 20s. Age is really just a number and we can't help who we fall in love with. Trust me, I've been there.😂 So I can see EJ feeling conflicted about his feelings that are clear at this point.
They might not be a perfect fit, but they make each other sooo happy. They deserve a lot more than a short lived fling.😟 They are either endgame or Rina is. You can't have both as a Rina unless you're an EJ hater who wants him to exist as plot device. Nope! He's sooo much more precious than that.
But Jack on the other hand....I'm okay if he's the one to make Ricky or EJ jealous. Because he's just been introduced and it's okay if a character is used, but only once, for someone else to realize their feelings. 💁🏽♀️
In short.
Ricky needs help and needs to be on his own. No girlfriends allowed.🙅🏽♀️🚫
Needs to give both Gina and Nina space for them to grow on their own too.🌳
Ricky needs to understand the core of his problems and become more adaptable via therapy. Maybe the psychologist will point out his unresolved feelings for Gina, or he will conclude it himself. And in comes Ricky-pining-for-Gina season three.
Ricky needs to fully get over Nina before he moves on to anyone. Same for Gina if Portwell were to happen. No one deserves to be second choice.
Gina isn't Ricky's cushion. She's a living person with strong feelings for him and shouldn't be subjected to share his pain. She already struggles with her own issues.
Ricky needs to stay single till he wins back Gina and prove he's worth it. He needs to show even if another girl wants him, he'll never quit on Gina ever again. Even if he has to watch her be with someone else. *cough parallels*.
It's either romantic Rina then Portwell endgame OR Portwell flirty besties but Rina endgame. You and I can choose only one because my boy EJ shouldn't be used as plot device for a girl to leave for Ricky ever again.
Portwell's age difference can be practically solved and isn't much of an issue unless they get hot and heavy before Gina turns 18 which is impossible considering this is Disney. 🤣🤣
Jack and Gina will be plot device material and purely so sentimental to us OG Andi Mack fans. More than any ship, this is what I'm looking for. Sort of an Andi Mack crack ship for season 3a. It's gonna be soooo funny. 😍😂

i won't be sweet like the rest of the people i've seen talk about this topic, i'll be direct because it seems that you don't understand it. use the tags correctly, or don't use them at all.
i'll refer only to stayblr because it's the fandom in which i wrote myself and in which i keep reading, and i am fed up. the tags and the search tool are precisely that, a way to organize content under the umbrella to which it belongs so that the person who's looking for it can find it without obstacles or the difficulty of the vast and infinite world of the internet.
if you use tags that don't cover the type of content you are publishing, you are literally not fulfilling its only function in this app.
you will not attract more attention by including your content under another umbrella.
you will not make people discover you by intruding in another content circle.
you will not make your posts more popular because the audience of another gender found you.
you will only generate disorder, and that said public stops trusting your blog because you are hampering. i can assure you that if i see your alien post inside the genre i am looking for, i'll think you are annoying, and the moment your fic is correctly categorized i will simply ignore it.
if you write sfw content, categorize your content as sfw. include umbrellas that encompass your characters and their feelings (fluff, angst, comedy, etc) and the type of content you are offering (au, one-shot, scenario, etc). specifie that there is no mature content type because people who are looking at the sfw content tag are expecting to read sfw content.
if you write suggestive content, categorize your content as suggestive. include umbrellas that encompass your characters and their feelings and the type of content you are offering. specifie that there is some kind of implicit or explicit mature content because people who are searching the suggestive content tag are expecting to read sfw content mixed with suggestiveness.
if you write mature content, categorize your content as nsfw. include umbrellas that encompass your characters and their actions (smut, warnings about what kind of sexual encounter is taking place, and any kind of relationship that is involved) and the type of content you're offering (au, one-shot, scenario, etc). specifie that there is mature content because people who are searching the nsfw content tag are expecting to read erotic literature.
can you mix them if there are several types of content involved? yes, but the description of the story you are offering has to be congruent. the reader has to meet each thing you are specifying, otherwise you are lying.
can you include them if there is only a small scene involved in a story that belongs to a totally different genre? yes, you must because it is a kind of warning. you shouldn't do this if there isn't even one sentence that can hint at the type of content you're tagging in your post.
maintain order if you want your content to be distributed correctly and reach the audience you are writing for. you are forcing the reader to stumble upon content they are not looking for, thereby diverting them from their initial search.
order also refers to what kind of format you are using. at what point did answering an ask in your inbox with a random thought become literary content? not me flexing on the fact that i'm majoring on literary analysis, but stop being ridiculous.
this platform has been too generous with distributing attention to different content creators, and yet some continue to get in the way. writers spend hours, days, weeks writing and editing a short novel so that later someone fills in the tags with an absurd amount of asks that make the reader bored and abandon it, ignoring the fic that remains at the bottom because of your "hard/soft hours".
if you have followers, if you have an audience, they will see it on your blog without using tags. if you want to attract them, then do it with real and quality content which will then allow you to have a group of active people who interact with you and see your "thoughts". win the interaction, it won't fall from the sky for getting into other people's space.
just stop for a second to think about how a hobby, an entertainment space, has become pure hubbub and noise. the lack of organization causes a lack of interaction, and with it, the lack of response to which writers have been exposed in recent years. does it hurt that your favorite writers are leaving the app or stop writing? this is the reason. the place where they have to grow is so messy that they don't have the space to do it. readers don't find them.
i, as a reader, want to find exactly what i'm looking for, and i can't do it just because new writers think it's all as simple as desperately attracting attention. we all put in a lot of effort and dedication to get the followers and attention that we have, and it took time. weeks, months, even more than a year.
if you are mature and old enough to write, follow the guidelines for doing so publicly. if you don't know enough about the environment, then learn about it first. i hope i don't have to explain it with apples next.

Do you wanna talk about your awesome fic? Thank you! Ebott's Wake, chapter 25: The backyard became abruptly silent and still. Birdsong stopped, the rustling of the wind stopped, and even the noises of neighbors and traffic going down the street were muffled and muted. If Sans had possessed hair, it would have stood up, but Frisk seemed too distracted to notice and just pulled out their cell phone.
“Sans, do you think even the worst person can change?”
“huh?”
“I mean, that anybody can be good, if they just try?”
Sans stared at Frisk's face, belatedly picking up details that should have been glaringly obvious. Bloodshot eyes and dark circles under them. Defensive posture. Two fingers held the silver key between them and shook slightly. Somehow, against all anatomical impossibility, he swallowed.
“You know, I was over at Toriel's place before I came here, looking for you actually. Alphys and Undyne were there, and I don't remember Alph being that happy since she was picked for the science team after she graduated. The thing is, nothing objectively has changed. She still has the same problems, the same goals, and the same obstacles. But at the same time, everything has changed. Because she's not obsessing over the problems any more. She's hyped up to find solutions. That ain't nuthin'. Here, let me show you something.”
Sans held his cell phone right in front of one eye socket. “Right now, this cell phone is taking up almost all my field of vision. There's barely room for anything else.” Sans held out the phone at arms length. “Now I can see it, and everything else in front of me. The phone is the same size as before, nothing has changed but perspective and position. So... no matter what's bothering you, no matter what has you crying yourself to sleep each night for the past few nights, keep that in mind. It only looks as big as it does because you're so close to it. I won't tell you it's not that important, or it doesn't matter, because I don't even know what it is. But just maybe it's not really as big a deal as it seems.”
“...but what if it's the other way around?”
“What do you mean?”
Frisk looked up to the sky and pointed at the sun, shining valiantly and unobstructed as if the previous day's inclement weather had never happened. “At arm's length you can block out the sun with a few fingers, but that's only because it's millions of miles away. It's actually so big, and so important, that everything else revolves around it. What if this is something so big it can destroy everyone's happy ending?”
Ah yes, how the turntables for Sans the skeleton...
Granted it's literally been years since I started Ebott's Wake, but I think this was definitely after the point when I realized I couldn't wrap up the original plotline idea (custody battle) in a timely manner. The actual scene was the first major foreshadowing element leading up to the Human Magic plot point; I had chosen to interpret Sans' little moment in Grillby's in the game as magic that manipulated the passage of time - not only was it in keeping with his "time and space are for other people" gimmick where he shows up all over the place, but the implied connection with Gaster made perfect sense for a scientist that accidentally paradox'd himself out of existence.
The actual dialog was a bit more involved and also revealed more of Frisk's baggage, especially imposter syndrome, but perhaps more importantly their capacity for rationalization which carries through all the way to Undyne's magic training in Legacy of the Magi. Sans has to use technical metaphors to try to make a point to Frisk, but Frisk takes that metaphor and runs with it. They START with negative emotions, and those feelings being supra-rational, can't be refuted logically; instead, their mind uses the negative feelings as a foundation and builds an internally logical framework on top of it that makes perfect sense... to Frisk.
(Granted anybody who has more than a passing familiarity with how therapy actually works, either providing it or making use of it, knows that a large part of the process involves slowly pushing back against defense mechanisms and rationalizations just like that before the core problems can be addressed, but it's very hard to show that process in any sort of media; TV sitcoms have less than half an hour to introduce framing device, plot conflict, and resolution, and hour long drama / action / suspense shows aren't that much better. Long format shows often have multiple writers working on the same characters and they can handle the same issues in different ways - that's why Star Trek Voyager was all over the place compared to Next Gen or Deep Space 9 - and that's without writers or actors leaving the show so the arc they were involved in never actually gets resolved. So the unrealistic "Epiphany Therapy" model is honestly the only way shows CAN handle stuff like that. This is only tangentially related to that excerpt though.)
The key Frisk has is from Sans but not from multiple runs through the Underground, that was one of the early cases of me deliberately muddying the waters between what happens in the game and what happens in the year and a half since monsters got out of the Underground. That's also where a lot of the phrases taken verbatim from the game and used in different contexts came from, with the overall idea being that I could dispense with not only common fan interpretations but even make very flexible use of the canon text itself whenever it worked better for my purposes, such as the time frame for the Buttercup Plan and Fallen Humans being very recent instead of a hundred years ago.
Sans being freaked out was also foreshadowing in its own way - not only did he recognize the Energy Magic when it happened to him, but he realized Frisk didn't know they were doing it, which says a lot about their potential capabilities as a magic user. More importantly, he finally noticed the behavioral cues that indicated distress and realized two important things: First, that the kid's been stressed out for a while and he, the expert cold-reader, didn't realize until just then, which was the first step in his own path of self reflection that lead to apologizing to Frisk for only caring about them as a means to an end later in the story. And Second, an emotionally unstable neophyte sorcerer losing their shit and control of their powers in the age of cell phone video cameras and ubiquitous social media coverage could do a number on public opinion of magic, and by extension monsters in general. The town itself wouldn't fare too well either.
Which leads directly to him deciding to give Frisk a magic textbook.

Hello!My name is Moonbow and I am a huge sbi+more fan! And so I decided to do my bois some justice and create a au based off of dnd and skyrim!They all reside in the land of "Bladestrom" a legendary kingdom build out of mysterious ruins and on the ground where dragons once rested.I will let you in on some headcanons and insights about each character!I hope you guys enjoy it🥺👑💓
Dave(Techno) Blade:
The 12th heir of the throne King Technoblade,or simply King Blade.A strong and fearless warrior known for his determination,power and strength.
He has a serious and egoistic facade.Though in reality the king is anything but egoistic and serious.Quiet the opposite actually:He tends to be very polite and respectful.Sure his ego is the size of a full grown dragon but he is a big hearted man.
Techno mostly stays in his castle walls and prefers to read or write in peace.The only time he will actually step foot in the outside world was during night,when his people need him or his favorite hobby ;)
He has a pretty unbalanced and unhealthy sleeping schedule which he constantly gets reminded of.
The only person Techno actually lets into his private life is his best friend Phil.Phil is Techno's personal knight and right hand man.Techno trusts Phil with his eyes closed,his loyalty is very appreciated.
A huge downside for Techno's reputation is that he is really shy and socially awkward.The poor guy can't find the right words or say anything normal without feeling like he said something fully absurd.
Apart from reading and fighting,Techno loves to farm potatoes in his free time.He loves the fresh taste once they are harvested and prepared properly!!His potatoes are known to be from the best quality in the whole land!Which earns Techno some extra money.
Techno won't admit it infront of Phil or anyone else but he has a soft spot for children,especially orphans. He knows the feeling of growing up without parents and he feels connected to them.That's why Techno stops by the local orphanage to donate some money he earned from his potato farming.
Techno loves to train and upgrade his swordsmanship abilities to their fullest potential.Always coming up with new strategies and techniques to use whenever the time for war would fall upon them once again.
And speaking of war,the thing that terrified the neighboring kingdoms and enemies even more about King Blade is the fact that he never manages to lose. Everyone stupid enough to challenge the king of Bladestrom would go down in shame and regret.
Though Techno isn't really in control of himself in those types of situations.His lust for blood overcomes his senses and he can't but see red with every step he takes on the battlefield.
Phil is usually the one who manages to calm him down and get him back to his normal self.Techno would feel awful and expose the side he hates the most about him to Phil: Vulnerability
Techno doesn't take things very seriously.He is very sarcastic and relaxed all the time,and that's what makes him even scarier.
He competes in the yearly bladestrom championships which is a battle arena with different challenges and obstacles you have to beat.And suprise,suprise Techno wins em' all!
Techno suffers from adhd and anxiety.Something that only Phil is aware of is Techno's ptsd.He didn't exactly have the luxurious and perfect life growing up,so when he ends up getting nightmares or panic attacks Phil's dad instincts take over and do their thing.
Long story short,Techno doesn't necessarily know his limits,but he is hundred percent aware of his strengths and weaknesses.He protects and takes care of the people he deeply cares about and welcomes them as family.His power is what makes him a fearless and violent king.But his heart is what makes him a kind and understanding human.And if he ever forgets about that side of him he simply has to listen to the repeated beating in his chest.
Phil Watson:
The royal guard with a five year long achievement on staying at the top of his game and ranking as the number one royal knight.
Earning himself the trust and life long,brother like friendship with the king himself was a big plus!
Phil is a very loyal and hardworking man.He seeks justice and always wants to take things the slow and pacifistic way before instantly turning to violence and bloodshed,much unlike his best friend.
Phil is very kind,and gentle when he needs to be. Everyone loves seeing Phil in the local town tavern or in a city bar.He always seems to read poeple like an open book and find the right topics to talk about.
Techno and Phil have a very close and important relationship.They are like a brothers,though Techno secretly looks up to Phil like a father he never had. Phil would risk his life for Techno,not only becouse of his duty as his personal guard,but becouse family comes first.
Phil is a very wholesome and strong willed guy.
Whenever Techno is feeling down or something like a panick attack or nightmare is happening,Phil immediately notices it.Techno doesn't have to say a word for Phil to hug him and take care of the vulnerable king in his hands.
He will find Techno on his balcony while patrolling the castle halls or garden in the middle of the night just staring at the moonlit sky.He always seems so lost in thought and carefree that Phil simply smiles and continues his work.
He does scold him for not resting enough the next day though-so he's never really off the hook :D
Phil is also the only person who really knows Techno.He knows his deepest fears,biggest insecurities and darkest secrets.He sees him in moments where the world would turn his back on him but Phil doesn't and he never will.That's what he promised him all those years ago.
Long story short,Phil is very kind and hardworking.He takes problems into his own hands and solves them the best way he possibly can.He can and will tease the living daylight out of Techno and that infront of other residents of the castle who don't know if they should laugh or simply stare in shock.Phil deeply loves and cares of Techno like his son and always makes sure ro put his well being infront of his own.
(I WOULD DIE FOR PHIL-HE IS SO WHOLESOME AHHH-)
Wilbur Soot:
A lonesome musician on the lookout for money and success-
Wilbur is a guitarist living on the streets of Bladestrom He goes from bar to bar and performs his musical talent there.Though the majority of the time Wil plays and sings on the streets.
Earning money is hard so affording an apartment,even a room for a few nights is almost impossible for Wilbur since he only earns a few silver coins per night,that is if he gets lucky and poeple actually listen to him.
He is very charming and suave,also add the fact that he is pretty handsome to the list and you have yourself the perfect boyfriend.May I inform you that his voice is a perfect balance between velvety and rough-
Wilbur isn't from Bladestrom.He grew up in another kingdom which he can't remember the name from since he arrived here during a war 19 years ago.
He never really heard from his parents,they just sort of disappeared.But that was something Wilbur didn't question,he didn't care about them.He learned how to survive and keep himself company.He doesn't need a family ro accomplish his goals.
Wilbur is a huge gentleman and he is also tends to be extremely flirtatious,which he is really good at btw!So yeah he earns himself some extra points with the ladies ;)
His biggest dream that he is trying to achieve is to become a famous musician in the whole entire land. Opening his own theater and doing what he loves the most.Sing and perform.
But living on the streets has it's ups and down's.Most nights Wilbur has to deal with drunk people wandering the alleyways or annoying little children who constantly pickpocket you-
Wilbur will sometimes nonchalantly sneak into a hotel and sleep in one of their cozy beds,since he doesn't experience that feeling often.Or the places he performs at reward him with shelter instead of money.
Long story short,Wilbur can keep apart dreams and reality.He is a smart and sly person who knows how to accomplish his goals.Even though Wilbur has his one Night stands more than often he would never betray a woman if he got into a serious relationship,which he plans on not having any time soon.He keeps to himself and sternly focuses on the things that matter in life,everything else is irrelevant.
Tommy Simons:
An energetic orphan with no manners and the mouth of a sailor.
Tommy grew up on the streets,any memory of his past life or family only appear as a missing puzzle piece or a black canvas.
Tommy is a very outgoing and optimistic person,his emotions are practically worn out on his sleeves.
Spending his days in the local town orphanage Tommy met a few poeple who he spends his time with.You could say that he has formed a wierd alliance with his more questionable friends.
Tommy learned how to defend himself and make sure that his "gang" stas safe aswell.He is quite the expert at pickpocketing which comes in handy.
Being quick and light on his feet,if Tommy does get caught by the royal guards he manages to escape and get away with the stuff he stole.
On the other hand though,Tommy is extremely clumsy and seeks huge amount of admiration in any way.He constantly wants people to refer to him as the best.
And to repeatedly prove himself worthy of that title he picks fights with multiple poeple and always manages to make poeple hate him.He won't say it out loud but he sees the bloody noses and bruises as badges of honor,he's proud of them.
This little troublemaker has only one person he dreams to meet one day,but for now he can only hear stories about him and admire him from afar.And that person is none other than King Blade himself.
Oh what he would give to train with him and show off his badass moves and fighting skills.
Long story short,Tommy doesn't think before he acts and he surprisingly manages to pull off any stupid stunt he plans to do.For Tommy it's kill or be killed.Either you face your fears head on and establish dominance or you act like a coward and run away.And there was no way Tommy ever does the second option even if it gets him into dangerous situations.Tommy is very overprotective over poeple he cares about,his guild is his brotherhood,his family,and he would do anything for them,even going sofar as risking his life.

Made a Grumpus OC
They're just one of few of them..not sure if I'll draw any of them, I drew them because..I'm bored
I have a grumpsona in mind..but I'm not finish with it's design
I guess I'll explain them
Amly Ductforce(I'm bad at names) came to Snaktooth island because they were bored and needed a vacation from their "job"
He's gender-fluid and doesn't mind people getting his pronouns wrong when he doesn't feel that gender, but some just call him a "They" and that's fine by him
One thing that she's really good at, is lying and stealing. When she came to Snaktooth Island, she started her hobby right away and stole some things from Wambus which got him pretty upset
He gives everyone nicknames despite not liking anyone besides Cromdo
She likes order yet enjoys chaos, sometimes, she would plant random objects that belong to the residents in each other's huts to start up something
When the town split, he went to the Boiling Bay due to the nice warm yet cold feel to it and because she wanted to steal stuff from Floofty
They're probably in their late 40s early 50s
Her and Cromdo get along for the most part as long as she doesn't steal anything from him
In their hut, they have a lot of stolen objects, most from Wambus
Their hut is beside Liz and Egg's hut but is to the right of the beach
If he was in the game, then you'd meet them the same time you meet Floofty
She doesn't like Lizbert because she always calls her out on the stuff she steals, same for Beffica
Due to his hatred to Lizbert, he shares the same hatred towards Eggabell but doesn't go out his way to steal from her, seeing her as too fragile
He's scared of Chandlo(because he would snap her like a twig), Shelda(because she acts like a cult leader), and Gramble(because he's too nice)
If they get caught stealing, they lie about it and theres a 90% chance it'll work due to their confident sounding voice and being a bit manipulative

Thank you for answering my question! I’m sorry to hear about all you’ve gone through, but am absolutely thrilled about everything you’ve done to overcome your respective obstacles and grow and BE (with a future project at that!). We don’t follow each other, but it’s nice to see someone having fun/an interesting perspective on how much the rpc has changed. I’ve tuned into this rpc every now and then and know it’s been through a lot (and I think that may or may not have played a part in how hard it is to make friends here? but that’s not exclusive to this fandom), but for what it’s worth, I think y’all are cool :)

I don't feel it's wholly necessary to be sorry for the things I've been through -- yes, for sure, they hurt at the time, but I've found joy and safety which I didn't have before. I've found myself stability and carved out my place in the world in ways I didn't think possible when I first started this blog. When I started this blog, I was practically a child, and at that, a rather depressed one, who didn't think the world wanted me at all, and thus never planned for a future of any capacity.
(Let it be known I'm living proof of "it gets better" mentality. And 2015!Max never would have agreed with that assessment.)
I think with the League RPC, we've been through several major phases. And I wholly agree with your assessment here that we've been through a lot. Overhauls, complete retcons, reworks, and rebrands -- Riot has really put us through all the paces a fandom can be put through, and somehow there's still a bunch of us here and kicking. As for Tumblr RP specifically? My discord RP friends, some of them (more than one!), have told me "Tumblr RP scares me," which I find hilarious. It was a moment you had to be in to get into it, I think, and that moment has kinda passed in favor of more organized closed spaces. That shift's been happening for years, just quietly under the hood.
You say it's a bit hard to make friends here. I... don't know about that. As I've gotten older I've come to realize it's always hard to make friends, no matter where or how. Dash interaction and Tumblr instant messages are an imperfect means of percolating friendships, that I'll easily grant. It's so much easier to talk to your cohorts in the discord server to get to know them. Getting there just takes longer, and some blogs in the LoL RPC just don't stay that course. League of Legends roleplay is this unique space. Very frequently, a new character comes up. Enters the space. People make blogs for them. Only about 1% of those blogs for new characters stay. (I'm always hesitant to follow New Champion blogs for this reason. The dedication just isn't there.) Even in other fandoms with frequent retcons... This is definitely unique to the LoL RPC.
I guess what I'm trying to say, if you're reading this you're certainly welcome to join the League RPC and you will eventually make friends. There are a bunch of League community members who I'd gladly point to and say "this person is very cool, they won't bite, go talk to them." And I feel like I'm one of them? Our fandom is certainly unique and filled with some interesting characters -- both in and out of character.
As for me, I'm most certainly just a bean with social anxiety who's too stubborn to leave. Take all allegations to the contrary that I'm "cool and unapproachable" with a grain of salt. I am potato
